First or Last

" Make the most out of yourself. For that is all there is of you. " Emerson

Why do we all strvie to be the best, when we know that to be the best, there must be thousands of people below us who are not as good? We cannot always be the first, the gold medalist, the winner. Sometimes we lose so that somebody else could win.

Why do we pity Van Gogh who, with all his paintings still in our midst, died in his 40s? Is his fate sadder than the million other people who lived in his time who we don’t remember at all? Is it really that important to be remembered or to just live? I wonder if like Napoleon Bonaparte, there would be another cologne named 25 Bagtican after our family’s home address. Is the Nobel Prize a noble goal?  My dad said that "Heroes are famous for helping others. Celebrities are famous for helping themselves."

I’ve heard it said that we are all terminally ill. Some are just more pronounced and announced than others. Some will reach the end later, others sooner. We’ll never know whether we are on a row boat or a speedboat.

Twist, Slip and Slide

"Crashasha: The NY Post Headline on Sasha Cohen’s falls at the 2006 Winter Olympics."

I love guys who are smooth and slick. Those who just know the perfect words to say and when to say them. I’d swoon and slide. Those probably account for the bruises on my legs, the bumps on my head and the few times I fell hard  - on my butt.

On the flipside, there are some who just can’t find the right words and the right times. Though cute and fun, I’m not finding myself in twirls.
