An island home with 3 million rooms

Many New Yorkers look down on Bridge and Tunnel people. Those who need to use a bridge or tunnel to get to Manhattan on a daily basis. But when you get to visit many Manhattanites’ abodes, they’re so small you actually pity them because they can take a box and live there everyday.

When faced with a chance to move back to the city, it is a hard decision to make. Because I find that I love my Astoria Apt when I’m inside it, and love the Manhattan Apt when I’m outside it.

The only way to think of it is travel time in NY is not wasted time—you have books, ipods, cellphones and your thoughts. And that everyone just has a bedroom in Manhattan. The city is their living room, their kitchen and their entertainment room. And they can always do their work in Central Park. That’s what powerbooks are for.

Very well said Carissa - I agree 100%! I can’t stand pretentious people (especially pinoys) who call themselves ‘Manhattanites’ and brag about their NY, NY addresses and 212 area codes but never dare invite people to their places coz they’re really sharing a 375 sq ft cockroach-infested box with 5 other people! Although I lived in the city for 4 years and subsequently moved to Queens (hence a bridge-and-tunnel person myself) - I don’t regret my choice to live within my means and to have a little extra to still enjoy the city whenever I want without having to ‘pretend.’
